Loving being with West Bremer Radio for its outside broadcast live from the main street of Ipswich for today's Anzac Parade! Go to @westbremerradioipswich to listen live and see the livestream of the parade! The Beacon war memorial in Auckland, New Zealand, is perhaps the most unique First World War Memorial on the planet. It was the first WW1 memorial in New Zealand, erected by the harbour board in 1915 not to commemorate the end of the war but the beginning. Years later it was maintained not by the Allies of WW1 but a refugee from Nazi Germany of WW2. The beacon is always lit so that Aucklanders at war will always find their way home. I've come to New Zealand's National Maritime Museum in Auckland to see an often and yet remarkable piece of maritime history from Cook's landmark voyage of discovery in 1770. I've come to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to see the last Japanese Kamikaze Zero of the Second World War. In Rabaul this Zero was readied for a Kamikaze attack on Allied forces, but the ground crew delayed attaching the 250kg bomb, the war ended, and the last Kamikaze remained grounded, saving untold lives including that of the young pilot. This Anzac wasn’t awarded any bravery medals, but his is an amazing First World War story from Goondiwindi like no other. Please follow the link on my profile for the Anzac Day story, "Submarines and the Red Baron: The Dassie Gore Story." When from your 1869 church you're given the chalice to take home, does it mean you're really important? Or just that you're the only person to admit that you had a silver cleaning cloth? 🙂 There’s a World Record that Australia forgot, and it still stands today 137 years later. Please share and follow if you like it. Follow the link on my profile for the story, "The World Record Australia Forgot." The city's nervous system was tested, and Priscilla took her secret to the grave. Please follow and share this remarkable story via the link on my profile, "Priscilla Runaway Girl of Toowoomba." You can hear me live with Damo on 4AK Darling Downs after 7.30am Tuesdays and the read the story on my website www.historyoutthere.com the following Friday. And for your weekly double-hit you can hear me live with Doctor Dan on Ipswich's West Bremer Radio after 8am Saturdays and read the story the following Sunday. (All Brisbane times.) The #historyoutthere never stops!
