He was the author, chairman of the review committee, and acting governor to sign its Royal Assent, of the first criminal code in Australia which was passed in 1899. He was also the Chief Justice of the Australian High Court interpreting his code for the first time. This was Sir Samuel Griffith. Thank you Michael Halliday, retired Barrister-at Law, Magistrate and Coroner, and The Royal Historical Society of Queensland, for an outstanding lecture on Sir Samuel Griffith and the Writing of the Queensland Criminal Code. The address was delivered in the magnificent convict-built 1824 Commissariat Store in #Brisbane.
