My book “Dovercourt: Toowong’s Hidden Treasure and Its People”

It was 165 years ago that the most publicised elopement in Australian history came to a heart-breaking end, and the secret resides under this famous turf. I went prospecting and found these magical 200 million year old Thundereggs which are genuine time capsules from the late Triassic early Jurassic period. Small bipedal and large meat-eating or long-necked dinosaurs last breathed the very air trapped in the crystal cavities inside. Heartfelt prayers go out to the family of the Australian who this week was tragically killed while climbing to Machu Picchu in Peru. I visited the 15th-century Lost City of the Incas and can attest to the dangers involved climbing including the even steeper Wayna Picchu seen here that looks down on its Andes neighbour. It’s a wonderful world but be careful. An airman used magic to escape from a POW camp, but his grandfather was even more amazing as the most controversial politician in Queensland history. Rockhampton dairyfarmer John Carey late one night was approaching this spot where the Old Exchange Hotel stood then when his dogs took off in total fear, and Carey knows what he saw in the dark of night.
