My book “Dovercourt: Toowong’s Hidden Treasure and Its People”

This week I was delighted to catch up with Hon. Pat Comben AM, former Queensland Minister for Education and Minister for Environment and Heritage, for a pre-launch signing of his latest book, “Queensland’s Temperance Story: A Faithful Struggle.” Pat is supporting my Tiwi Islands Hike for Health for which this month I’m going to the Timor Sea to showcase that the best of healthy sport can be celebrated without the counterproductive harms of alcohol. In Australia 6,000 babies are born every year with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), 80% of children in the criminal justice system have FASD, and yet there is still no compulsory alcohol warning label and there’s unbridled alcohol advertising during live sport. We need to protect our children better. This work needs your help so please make your tax-deductible donation via the link on my profile and the Tiwi Islands Hike for Health picture, to support Drug ARM educate and reduce such fully preventable harms www.historyoutthere.com There was a convict who could genuinely lay claim to be the King of Ipswich in Queensland. Please follow the link on my profile to read, like and share the story, "The Convict King of Ipswich." One hundred years ago, a milkman made history when he got into trouble with his taxes. Please follow the link in my profile to read and share this unknown little piece of history, "When a Milkman Made Tax History." With the tax season almost upon us, here's a reminder to be careful because a century ago for one man it blew up into a Royal Commission. Please follow the link on my profile to Like and Share the story, "The Butter Boss and the Taxman." The first Queensland-made car was manufactured in Toowoomba 125 years ago by an amazing family. Please follow the link on my profile for the story, "The Trevethans: The Family Who Built Queensland’s First Car." It's been 176 years and the story of Ipswich’s greatest ever librarian has never been told until now. Please Like, Share, Follow the story via my profile to keep his memory alive, "The Miner Who Became Ipswich’s Greatest Librarian." While in the West Australian goldfields, I tracked down the Darling Downs’ most successful builder of the last two centuries with connections to the US president. Please follow and share the link on my profile for the story, "The Connolly Cousins: Murder, Mayors and Million‑Dollar Contracts." Exactly 100 years ago this year, these two locations in the Australian Goldfields were central to the most evil murders of serving policemen in Australian history. I went to Fremantle in Western Australia to visit the hotel that accommodated the survivors of a shipwreck 116 years ago. I found an incredibly rewarding story. Please follow the link on my profile for the story, "The Last of the Pericles."
