My book “Dovercourt: Toowong’s Hidden Treasure and Its People”

Alcohol in Australian sport fuels violence, crime, and health issues. But not on the Tiwi Islands. The community has implemented programmes to reduce alcohol consumption including alcohol-free zones. This July I’m trekking to the 2026 Tiwi Islands football grand final to show that footy can be awesome without being drenched in drink. The Tiwi Islands are 2 ½ hours by ferry north of Darwin in the Timor Sea. Love of Australian Rules football runs deep. It's pride representing your community, your people. All donations are tax-deductible in Australia and go to the charity Drug ARM to reduce the harms of alcohol and other drugs. Follow the link on my profile for the "Tiwi Islands Hike for Health" tile to learn more and donate. It was 165 years ago that the most publicised elopement in Australian history came to a heart-breaking end, and the secret resides under this famous turf. Please follow the link on my profile for the story, "Under the Turf of Lang Park." I went prospecting and found these magical 200 million year old Thundereggs which are genuine time capsules from the late Triassic early Jurassic period. Small bipedal and large meat-eating or long-necked dinosaurs last breathed the very air trapped in the crystal cavities inside. Heartfelt prayers go out to the family of the Australian who this week was tragically
killed while climbing to Machu Picchu in Peru. I visited the 15th-century Lost City of the
Incas and can attest to the dangers involved climbing including the even steeper Wayna
Picchu seen here that looks down on its Andes neighbour. It’s a wonderful world but
be careful.
An airman used magic to escape from a POW camp, but his grandfather was even more amazing as the most controversial politician in Queensland history. Follow the link on my profile for the story, "Whiskers, Wizards, and the Wildest Election in Queensland." The song "Ol' Man River" is deeply intertwined with the history of the American south especially the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. I'm loving this performance at Opera in the Gardens put on by Brusbane western suburbs Rotary clubs Kenmore, Toowong and Brookfield supported by @crgregadermann and @brisbane.lordmayor in aid of the charity @drug.arm Please donate here if you can www.drugarm.com.au National Rugby League's Magic Round supporters in Brisbane this weekend should be careful following this gruesome death 101 years ago. Follow the link on my profile for the story, "Pat Doyle’s Last Ride: The Bulimba Cup Tragedy of 1925." Two hours of subterranean caving in the Capricorn Cave system in search of the endangered Ghost Bat... tick! Some may have been too quick to judge a 1917 suspicious death because it was the Goondiwindi mother’s son who was the harbinger of death. Follow the link in my profile for the 3rd story in a trilogy, "Harbinger of Death: The Uncanny Life of Victor Bushell."
