I've come to New Zealand's National Maritime Museum in Auckland to see an often and yet remarkable piece of maritime history from Cook's landmark voyage of discovery in 1770. I've come to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to see the last Japanese Kamikaze Zero of the Second World War. In Rabaul this Zero was readied for a Kamikaze attack on Allied forces, but the ground crew delayed attaching the 250kg bomb, the war ended, and the last Kamikaze remained grounded, saving untold lives including that of the young pilot. This Anzac wasn’t awarded any bravery medals, but his is an amazing First World War story from Goondiwindi like no other.
