I went to Toowoomba's Carnival of Flowers to see this, my 1900 Cobb & Co carriage that I sponsored through the Queensland Museum to help preserve. In the 1860s Ipswich's John Barnes defined resilience. Go to my www.historyoutthere.com website for the whole story "Furious Riding of Resilient John Barnes" and subscribe for free to get two weekly stories delivered to your inbox. While in Melbourne I tracked down the Brisbane superfan behind a rare piece of sports memorabilia linked to a Toowoomba championship. Please follow the link on my profile for the story, "The Oldest Fan Letter in NBL History." The day after the Brisbane Lions won their 3rd consecutive AFL premiership, the NBL's oldest known fan mail to the Brisbane Bullets - it was sent 46 years ago in just the second year of the league - gets verified in Fitzroy. Witnessing the @brisbanelions #ThreePeat was pretty good, and so too was being reminded at the airport what got us there! 🙂 When Brisbane Lions ran out onto the MCG they were not only about to create AFL history, but also recall it. Please follow the link on my profile for the story, "Before the Lions: Ipswich’s Hidden AFL History." Warren ("Luck of the Irish") and Annette ("Roar") were splashed across the screens of National Nine News last night, and this morning I managed to track them down in Melbourne live for @westbremerradioipswich Come back here tomorrow to read and hear this week's story live from the AFL Grand Final. Go Lions! I was the first to drape the 2026 AFL premiership cup in club colours when I claimed it on behalf of the Brisbane Lions back in July when the cup and I were on the Tiwi Islands. For the AFL grand final this weekend, go Lions! The rugby league heartland of Queensland’s Darling Downs has a surprising century-old link to an Australian Football League legend. Please follow the link on my profile for the story, "The Nurse Who Shaped an AFL Legend."
