Chris Calcino of ABC loves the #HistoryOutThere story “The Anzac Illusionist of Kalbar” so much that he’s retelling the tale in his own inimitable style this Monday after 4.30pm – so be sure you’re listening on your favourite regional Queensland Local Radio! ABC North Queensland, ABC Capricornia, ABC North West Queensland, ABC Southern Queensland, ABC Western Queensland. I'm here to see a remarkable collection at New Zealand's National Maritime Museum in Auckland, and this anchor was lost from Captain William Bligh's HMS Bounty during her voyage of 1787 when taken over by Fletcher Christian and the other mutineers. There was a mysterious death in Goondiwindi during the 1917 federal election that has never been explained. Please follow the link on my profile to read, listen and share the story, "The Body Beneath the Ballot." A magician in the First World War used his magic to escape as a prisoner of war of the Turks. Please like, share, follow this Anzac Day weekend via the link on my profile for the story, "The Anzac Illusionist of Kalbar." Loving being with West Bremer Radio for its outside broadcast live from the main street of Ipswich for today's Anzac Parade! Go to @westbremerradioipswich to listen live and see the livestream of the parade! The Beacon war memorial in Auckland, New Zealand, is perhaps the most unique First World War Memorial on the planet. It was the first WW1 memorial in New Zealand, erected by the harbour board in 1915 not to commemorate the end of the war but the beginning. Years later it was maintained not by the Allies of WW1 but a refugee from Nazi Germany of WW2. The beacon is always lit so that Aucklanders at war will always find their way home. I've come to New Zealand's National Maritime Museum in Auckland to see an often and yet remarkable piece of maritime history from Cook's landmark voyage of discovery in 1770. I've come to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to see the last Japanese Kamikaze Zero of the Second World War. In Rabaul this Zero was readied for a Kamikaze attack on Allied forces, but the ground crew delayed attaching the 250kg bomb, the war ended, and the last Kamikaze remained grounded, saving untold lives including that of the young pilot. This Anzac wasn’t awarded any bravery medals, but his is an amazing First World War story from Goondiwindi like no other. Please follow the link on my profile for the Anzac Day story, "Submarines and the Red Baron: The Dassie Gore Story."
